In black plague, you encounter Howard in the library. He's lying dead in a chair. I would like to know how he possibly could have died. The room in which he died, is completely sealed off from the library, so I don't think the infected killed him...

Was about to say the same thing as Tonewww, each of the staff members were handed a "personal cyanide capsule" if I remember correctly. No idea why they were given one though..
They were given one in order to kill themselves if they began to show signs of infection. As no stable cure was developed, it would be better to kill yourself than become one of them.
