Ah, nevermind... Did some searching xD Sorry, my bad...

Quote:Maybe it's just me... But I can't help seeing similarities between HPL and this page's game's engine?

http://www.unbirthgame.com

I was like WTF, when I saw the script reference: http://www.unbirthgame.com/files/ScriptReference.htm

Example:
StartPlayerLookat
StopPlayerLookAt
CreateParticleSystem
SetLight3DFlickerActive
KillParticleSystem
SetJointControllerPropertyFloat
SetPlayerPose
GivePlayerDamage
AddEntityCollideCallback

Their engine:
void SetPlayerActive(bool abActive);

HPL:
void SetPlayerActive(bool abActive);

And basically all of them.

Exactly the same in HPL.

What the hell is going on here?

They claim it's an engine called KGB (http://www.kpb.com/), written from scratch.

I thought HPL was developed from scratch by Frictional Games? Did you license it to other companies?

Or is it the other way around?

Or did someone steal it?

Or is this what you guys did before Penumbra?
Big Grin Unbirth is a frictional games old demo game so no one stole the engine, in other words the Unbirth engine is a precursor for the Penumbra HPL 1 engine.
Actually, the Unbirth engine was someone else's engine, if I am correct, and Unbirth was supposed to be a sort of benchmark of what it could do.
You should try the game, you can get it from http://unbirth.frictionalgames.com/

It's pretty buggy and crashes a lot but it's still interesting to have a look at.

Already did... I just get a black screen when I start it. And the only thing I can do is left click, and there's a weird sound.

Then I can terminate it through task manager. Tongue

Windows 7, 32 bit.
Try running it in compatibility mode and see if that works.

I knew someone was gonna suggest that, and I knew I should have said that I already tried that Tongue

No change.
Sorry, not my fault if you forgot it. Tongue

I didn't forget it, I just thought to myself: "Argh, forget it, no ones gonna suggest that" Tongue
You should always mention it if you've done it. Wink
Someone always suggests it. Tongue
