EDIT:OK,I just checked it out and I see Giger created horror/thriller games in the past(It wasn't long til there was a new Giger game posted on Abandonia,Dark Seed 2)Taking idea's from Giger will make Penumbra better aswell,Good link there HotKill.
EDIT:Oh just before I forget,Perhaps accessing to an office computer that computer could have a screamer prank in it and results that your player(And you)Get spooked(Referring to the game tough,So....Good idea?)It's a good feature when the player get spooked he shake his hands like crazy(This means less accuration when firing a gun)

if you like scary pictures you should take a look at the works of John Jude Palencar (he's done illustrations for H.P. Lovecraft) and Joachim Luetke (he's worked with Marilyn Manson and Anna-Varney Cantodea - both wonderful musicians i might add).
