After doubleclicking the icon, nothing happens, if I had done nothing. I have Vista, Nvidia GeForce 6100 nForce 420, Realtek High Definition Audio, OAL installed. Can anybody tell me why nothing happens?
check if it is under running processes in the taskmanager
1) Make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card.
2) Make sure you have the latest drivers for you sound card.

Check that and if it is still not working I will try my best to figure it out.
doesent it just gives you the no vertex shaders error when you havent installed the latest drivers?

Not always, some video cards "lie"

No, it's not in there! I have the latest drivers for graphics and sound (says Windows-Vista).
Go to "My Documents/Penumbra Overture/Episode 1" and copy the contents of hpl.log here.

Do not rely on what vista tells you. Go to nvidias site and get the latest drivers to be sure.
I got a similar problem

When i click on .exe it goes black and the flashed back to desktop...sometimes gives me that blackbox log, sometimes not....

*All my drivers are up to date
*OpenAL is installed
Specs:
Win XP 64-bit
ATI Radeon X800 Driver ver 7.3
Realtek high def audio Driver ver 1.61
