It's a shame when companies do this. I can relate. I'm still unhappy about the last few Tomb Raider expansions being exclusive to the Xbox.

There's nothing wrong with exclusives. Exclusives are the main thing that differentiate consoles from each other on the market. If one console has tons of great exclusives, you can bet the other is going to start working a lot harder on getting their own great exclusives. It benefits the consumer overall in the long run because it helps foster competition.

It'd be better to add/remove special features and bonuses between the consoles. Like having different bonus levels on the PS3 and X360 or different weapons. The early Pokemon games did this, except it was for the different versions for the same console, it worked very well nonetheless.

If I've understood correctly, back in the day, when GameCube, PlayStation 2, PC and Xbox versions of Splinter Cell were released, GameCube and PlayStation 2 had the same level design and PC and Xbox had the same level design, story was the same though.

It has nothing to do with Alan Wake but just thought of mentioning. Tongue

Each console had different exclusive bonuses for Splinter Cell, also (I own 3 versions of that game, haha). Soul Calibur has done that before also, with exclusive characters per console.

They only do that to get hardcore fans to buy multiple copies of the same game, when a game is exclusive, it is meant to be a system seller, a must have game that people will buy the console for. Often, these will be paid for by the company getting the exclusive. The good thing about this, they will usually spend more money on developing it than they can make back in sales, because it's meant to be more marketing and incentive for buying the console than to be a profitable game.
