- Navigate to models/player/hands/animations
- Choose which state you want to edit (Idle, Draw, Holster)
- Make a duplicate copy of the state you want to edit .dae_anim
- Rename the duplicate copy to something like "myAnimation.dae" Note, the filetype needs to be changed to dae, not dae_anim
- In Maya (I use 2008) goto File > Open Scene > Choose the file you just made, in this example "myAnimation.dae"
- You should now see Daniel's hand, click on the play button and see the animation!
- Edit it as you wish, animation is all keyframes

EXPORTING ANIMATION WHEN DONE
*** Requires ColladaMaya 0.35B Plugin***
- File > Export (Dialog) > choose "COLLADA (.dae .xml)" as the export format > Export > Overwrite the file you are editing ("myAnimation.dae" in this example)

IMPORTING ANIMATION INTO THE GAME
*** NOT DONE ***
- Change the extension of the file you created in the previous step to ".dae_anim"
- Go to the HPL Suite, open the Model Editor
- File > Open > Locate hand.ent in models/Player/hands
- Options > Animations
- Add
- Name it to whatever you like
- Press the "..." and choose your file (remember, with .dae_anim)
- Save the model and close
- Open the model viewer
- Open the hands.ent file once more
- Change the animation to your animation and make sure it is working
- Done!

I pro-tip with animation for new guys
(relevant to Maya as well, I'm using max)
Animators DON'T animate every key, if you look in the hand animation you'll notice every second frame the animation has a key, most of those are automatically generated, you can get away with deleting them, the hand_lantern_draw animation has only 5 or 6 key frames, the rest are redundant and removable

OK, Amnesia Flashlight Model is DONE, fully textured INCLUDING normal/bump texture
I have modified the animations but export doesn't export animations to the right world scale so I'll have to skip it for now until I can get some help

Enjoy the render

RE: Penumbra flashlight in Amnesia?

Ok, so.... I imported the model into the model editor and saved it, added a spot light and so on, I copied the files over the lantern to see it quickly ingame if its facing the right way nad so on
...
but when trying to pull out the flashlight in game the game freezes and closes with a crash dialog,

I'm obviously missing something... or did something wrong

lets start again from scratch, I got the model... in the model editor... what do I need to make it in game?
does it need every texture? do i need to create a texture file? do I need to create a physics?

i'll try from scratch and make a new build, i'll go over the wiki again but I don't know what I missed

You will need to edit the lantern.ho to point to your new file.
Okay... Maya is just giving me problems :| I got Blender, and am trying it out since the Wiki has a article on it.

RE: Penumbra flashlight in Amnesia?

Nope, Blender cant even import the animations ...

However, I have been editing the file manually

I'm getting results Smile

I might even write a PHP script to edit the dae files directly

That, or some sort of converter from the maya file we get to a useable game file ...

I'd like it if you could increase the radius of the light.
