Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

So Im having the same problem i saw another use have. I did a direct download onto my mac rather than steam.

I try to open Amnesia, but the screen goes black and goes away and when i try to click relaunch on a window that pops up, i get a message saying:

Could not load main init file: config/main_init.cfg

I dont know what to do.

There is a fix pending for this.. Just going through final testing before a patch is released.

Okay, so basically it can't be played until the patch is made. I'm cool with that, thanks. I hope I don't sound rude for asking, but Do you have an idea of how long it might take?

i have this same problem exept i did get amnesia through steam and when i first started getting this error (yesterday, near end of game) the error was "could not load main config file: config/default_main_settings.cfg" but now its"Could not load main init file: config/main_init.cfg" whats with this? when will the patch be released? is everyone more or less having this problem?

Have you tried repairing permissions using disk utility? Have you tried to delete Amnesia.app and then installing it again?

I'm not sure what the first question is, but i have tried teh second one about 3 times

kataare, Can you try going into your "~/Library/Application Support/Frictional Games/Amnesia/Main" folder and look at the sizes of the .cfg files contained there.

If any of them are 0 bytes.. Please delete them and see if that fixes the issue. Last resort is to simply rename the entire Main folder to Main.bak and try running the game again. (You can copy your saved games from within your profile over so you don't lose your progress if it fixes the issue)

I've also been having this problem, but I am running an internal graphics driver... I've been able to get to the launch screen and even setting all the options to "low", when I hit launch game, the screen goes black as it starts to initialize, and then crashes. The box asking whether I'd like to relaunch appears, and when I hit that, I get an error message telling me: "Could not load main init file: config/main_init.cfg"

I've tried all the renaming file fixes to no avail, multiple re-installations and installed the latest patch. :[ It may be that my computer simply cant handle it, but that isn't what I seem to be seeing at least in the way of this specific error. I have 9 gigs of space left, so thats not it...
I read above that you are working on a patch for this?
Also I did try booting it through terminal, but as i'm able to get to the launcher without problem it's gotta be a problem with the actual application support files or something.
help plox.

Also, just to re-ask for katabare; Urkle, do you know how long said patch might take until those of us who are having this issue are able to play? *I don't mean to sound pushy, just curious!
I have another friend who plays and I dearly want to experience the raw terror he goes through while playing this game.

Well, from what we have found so far it was caused by zero byte (or corrupted) files in the ~/Library/Application Support/Frictional Games/Amnesia folder. As all the *fixes* I was applying made no difference until the Amnesia folder was renamed.

The issue I was trying to fix was the game starting in the wrong directory (which I ran across once myself).. You can see if that is your issue by opening the Terminal application, and running the following

cd /Applications/Amnesia.app/Contents/Resources

./Amnesia.app/Contents/MacOS/Amnesia

If THAT doesn't fix the issue then check the config folder (within the Contents/Resources folder) and see what the main_init.cfg looks like (or post it here).

I ran the code in terminal, and it booted to a black screen that flashed blue, and then crashed. (Which could be my graphics driver sucking) and then when It asked to be restarted I still got the same error message: could not load main init....

Not sure whether there is anything wrong with it per se. I am running a 10.5.8 version of mac OSX, but it is an intel core macbook, and after reading the rest of the forum messages I feel that ultimately it will be my graphics card at the root of this issue. which can't be helped. That having been said, I do hope its something fixable. (would the game ever be patched to be compatible at much lower settings for graphics drivers such as mine?)
