Solved: 8 Years, 1 Month ago Justine Language Problem - SOLVED

I tried to translate Justine to another language and so I thought lets modify the file english.lang at ptest folder(I kept a backup of it in case something went wrong but that didn't help either). I opened it with the HplLangTool and changed only the Locked Firmly message in my language as a small test. When I saved the file with HplLangTool it generated a file of 10KB instead of 28KB (which is the justine normal language file size). I started the game and I couldn't see any text. Then I took the real english.lang file and modified the same text with notepad. It worked and the file was now 28KB. I replaced this with the old corrupted/modified one but the game still won't show any text. At last, I replaced the original english.lang but the game still has the same problem.

The HPL.log found under Documents>Amnesia folder says:

WARNING: Could not find language file entry 'english - ________'

I tried to reinstall Amnesia, then the patch again. Justine still doesn't show any text. Maybe the problem is at a file from Documents>Amnesia folder? What's wrong?

Use Notepad++ to translate and choose UTF8 w/o BOM option for encoding.
I made a Turkish translation for Justine and it pretty much works.

Thanks for the fast reply but now the problem is general. Even if I have the real english.lang and have reinstalled the game and the patch the problem is still there. The first topic is now updated.

You can also use hplhelper.exe to translate. The LangTool has not really been used or tested.

no I meant HplLangTool. I used that from the HPL2 Tools wiki article. What's hplhelper.exe? Do you mean HPLLangTool maybe?

Guys the problem is not how to translate but how to make Justine read the english.lang file again(the original one). I'm getting the error:

WARNING: Could not find language file entry 'english - ________'

EDIT: After a little search I found out that HplHelper.exe in for Penumbra and HLP1, not HLP2. Or I am wrong? Can I use it for Amnesia too? The problem is not that though but the error I'm getting even with the original file.

You de- and reinstalled the game and still have no language? O_o

I used the normal Windows notepad for the shorter passages and OpenOffice for the longer ones (but you'll need to make sure that the encoding is correct like Tanshaydar said) for my first German translation. But Notepad++ would be the better choice indeed because it offers more options.

Yeah, I was typing my post while you were posting already that that's not the problem. Still, did you de- and reinstall the game completely and still have no language?

Amnesia is fine. Justine is not fine though when it comes to the language. I don't know why.

From the options choose English again for both launcher and in game.
