Is it very risky to install TCs? - CorinthianMerchant - 12-03-2011

It seems very risky to take a full conversion, put it in the MAIN FOLDER, DELETE ORIGINAL folders, risking the game to stop working. Should I take the risk to install one, but create back-up folders first?

Delete original folders? No full conversion should do that. Only thing they should do is create new folders for their stuff, or put that stuff inside the original folders. No actual file should be overwritten.

And at least I don't know of any full conversions that deletes stuff...

So I should just put the tings in the entities folder in the game's entities folder and so on, and just delete the .bat file to uninstall?

Use Desura if you want easy install and uninstall capabilities, since i have yet to see a full conversion that has a simple install and uninstall process.

Can you tell me how to in- and uninstall TCs without Desura, Your Computer?

It depends on the total conversion. Usually they should come with a guide.

If they come with install instructions, it would normally be found in some sort of "readme" file or any other obvious name. They normally don't provide uninstall instructions since they tend to just tell you to extract "here" and hope it works. In those cases the uninstall process is very tedious, as you'll tend to have to examine the entire archive folder structure and see where everything is located, then find them in the folders where they were extracted to, then delete them. Desura tries to do all this work for you, and thankfully does a pretty good job at it.

I checked my unopened zip/rar file "White Night" and "Through The Portal" and the .readme files are very helpful with the install, however they say nothing about uninstalling the TC. Huh I guess I can ask the creators of the different TCs. Big Grin

I put the instructions on how to uninstall, and it's quite easy actually.
Again, Desura is the best thing for these kind of things.

Sorry I didn't see that... Big Grin

So only the folders starting with "wn_" shall be deleted, all the other folders can remain in the amnesia folder?
