Just a quick question to developers - Jack1 - 04-11-2012

How long did it take to code Penumbra Overture? Not counting the time to make the maps and models and all that but just the Penumbra code (the source code) because i'm thinking of making some sort of a game or some test thing with HPL1 and i'd like to know would it take years or something like that.

It only depends on how skilled you are and how long is your game. If you know how to script with HPL it shouldn't take long if your game is short. If you're making a god damn 100 hour RPG, it might take half of eternity to get it done. However, if you do not know how to script with HPL1, you may aswell forget games for some time.

Keep in mind that these guys are doing this as their full-time job. They know what they're doing. And to top that - they created the whole engine. And again: If I'm not horribly wrong, it's incredibly hard to make anything with HPL engine as it doesn't support Mods and Custom Storys in any way. It's only here for the Penumbra trilogy.
