Why Do People Type Badly? - Zaffre - 07-28-2012

I've asked in the past, but never got a real answer. Why do people always shorten sentences and refuse to capitalize? "English isn't my primary language" isn't a valid excuse. If you want to type faster, my average words per minute with proper capitalization and punctuation is 79. Is it that people who dwell on the Internet want typing to be an easier task for them? I would like somebody to reveal the reason for people to typ lik this.

P.S. I mean no offense to any person reading this post.

Lack of discipline and patience.

EDIT: It should be said that the majority of the human population doesn't speak English natively, and the number of people that speak it on at least an intermediate level can't be more than 75%. It isn't just a lack of discipline and patience in that case, but a lack of knowledge and practice. While I was living in Paraguay it surprised me quite a bit that many of the people who allegedly speak good English have trouble with simple concepts, like differentiating between "he" and "she".

I'm pretty sure it's some kind of mental disease.

Thank you for informing me of this, and it may be true, but it isn't the way they form sentences (i.e. wording a greeting wrong) that's wrong, but the way they spell them horrendously. There are people online born in English-speaking countries who still don't type properly. I can understand if somebody says "lol" sometimes, but there is not a need to shorten the word "people" to "ppl".

Edit: Take for instance, free to play games. An infamous example of this is a game my brother plays, Roblox. I won't go into detail, but nobody ever types correctly. Even in games you pay for, if they have online multiplayer, it might be hard to find a literate typer. Also, this may be due to the fact that many children go online daily. I am not saying that all children are terrible, but many of them are immature and type incorrectly. When they are questioned about this, they heatedly defend it. In adolescence, many teens or sometimes preteens think that others are incorrect and lower class then them. I found a comic online that represents this perfectly. I've since lost the image, but it depicts several teenagers with a speech bubble connecting all of them with the text: "Look at all these mindless drones, going about their daily lives. I'm the only one in a world of sheep."
