HPL Level Editor AMD Graphics Driver Crash - JPiiONEFOURONE - 09-05-2012

Hey guys,

I just downloaded HPL Level Editor and started to make my own custom map for Amnesia:TDD.

Every now and then, it freezes my computer, and eventually the screen
goes black, then after a few seconds, comes back on saying that my AMD
graphics driver had stopped responding and has recovered. This causes
the editor to stop responding, so any unsaved changes are lost.

All of my drivers are up-to-date, and if it helps, I am using Windows 7 64-bit.

Does anyone know of any fixes for this?

Thanks,

JPiiONEFOURONE

**EDIT** This crash only seems to occur one light sources are added to the map.

Downgrade your drivers until you no longer experience this issue. It's going to be a while before AMD fixes this issue, if at all.

Is there any other way I could fix this, I don't really want to downgrade my drivers?

Thanks,

You know, this is EXACTLY the thing I've been having too.. The editor worked from 5 seconds to couple of minutes before the black screen happened. This really didn't help when doing an 8-12 hour map project.

Does it only crash when you have lighting in the scene? I found that it works fine up until I add soem form of lighting, like a point light.

This is a problem with the newer drivers, so there isn't a fix for that right now. Downgrade in small increments until a sweet spot is reached.

I don't remember all the times it has happened to me, but it did happen when i was using Blender too (although this could have been triggered by the fact that i had previously opened one of the HPL editors, though i had closed it before using Blender). If you want to verify your theory, try disabling lights in the level editor options.

Will this cause damage to my machine if it keeps happening?

It is unlikely to cause damage to your machine. It is, however, likely you'd lose all the work you've done for the map you had open at the time of the crash.

I've managed to fix it without downgrading my drivers.

I put my Windows 7 into basic mode, hasn't crashed once since (I've been using it for at least 5 hours, it used to crash every 5-30 minutes)
