In Justine, when the monster kills you the game exits to the desktop. Does anyone know if this can be enabled for a total conversion? Is there some sort of config file?

It's not a config file, and it can be done in any story. Set a Checkpoint to a spot separate from the rest of the map, with a black box surrounding it, and a script that triggers when the player respawns at that checkpoint with a collide function. Tell that script to roll the credits. Voila, instant death.

Alternatively, you can have this one checkpoint revert the game back to the very beginning. People can then choose to quit or start right away rather than fuss through credits to restart. =P
