A plea on new level design in P3 - WindexGlow - 04-23-2008

Please frictional games, choose a new level layout for requirem. Pretty please?

Think of the kittens dammit!

In both Overture and Black Plague, the level designs went like this.
Large, maze-like design with patrolling enemies.
Many smaller rooms connected to Large-Maze room. These rooms never had any enemies in it, but always had a puzzle.

Go back to the Tech Demo feel. Those levels actually felt different from each other, and was the only reason why I bought Black Plague (My hopes were so high.. Sad )

Yeah, when the layout is like that it makes the game more of a scavenger hunt. Not to mechon the game is different depending on what rooms you choose to enter 1st.

In BP that one infected scientist told Philip to bring him the saw and he'll got off his hand for him, but by that point in the game, I had already got the hand.

I agree with WindexGlow. I hope the level design will change in Requiem.

Yeah also agree with the level design i reckon it should be like the tech demo again even when the part when the red screen part came and how it turned out to be whispering lol
i love the bit how the power randomly turns off then u come to fix it

and the door bashes open and the cockroach comes out lol

But the game isn't that scarey so i hope the new games after the penumbra series are much more scarey! Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Big GrinBig GrinSmile

I felt the tech demo had a much creepier atmosphere. Not as many heart-pounders like in overture/black plague, but they could have easily added more.

I recognize that old picture, only it didn't have the Domo-kuns in back then. Or the black box.
Anyhow, a "large maze with patrolling enemies and no enemies in the room" is exactly what Black Plague is... so, you pretty much failed.
Bringing back the Tech Demo feel would be hard as the P:O and BP enviroments aren't anything like it and changing now would be confusing.

I´m fine with that kind of design, but I would like to see more non-linearity, I mean in Black Plague (but not as much in Overture) you were kind of forced to go to Place X FIRST and Place Y SECOND and Place Z LAST, but I kind of want to go around solving different puzzles as I explore.

RE: A plea on new level design in P3 - Kedjane - 04-28-2008

I'd like more linearity actcually. In Black Plague you founds like 10 exciting doors, but could only open like three. I'd like to see five doors, only three openable.
