RE: Gothic - Googolplex - 09-18-2013

You guys getting ridiculous now. And here I don't see any sense to discuss longer. Sorry, but you doesn't even estimable a lot of qualitative design when just playing Final Fantasy or Elder Scrolls games, which is totally kindly and jolly in my opinion.

When you more enjoy lovely games, then Gothic will be nothing for you.

Yes I agree there is no sense in discussing this when you are incapable of formulating a coherent opinion and insist on attacking my arguments with an army of straw men instead.

EDIT: Even if you love Gothic because it's uncompromisingly and unfairly difficult - just say that. There's no shame in it whatsoever, and I'm sure everybody on this forum has at least one quasi-masochistic guilty pleasure. But to blindly praise the game as a masterpiece with no regards to logic is simply absurd.

EDIT2: But I did enjoy it. Don't get me wrong. I just thought it dragged and I got quite annoyed in the last 2-3 hours. I'm just looking at it objectively, and I think it is poor in many ways. Going to play Gothic 2 - hopefully it improves on the aspects I disliked about Gothic.

So, games that deliberately use horrible design are somehow better than games that don't?

Whelp, I've been getting it all wrong! Time to throw away years of Game design theory that I've picked up!

I did not love Gothic because it's "hard". I even don't think it's unfairly hard. It's realistic hard, but not annoying in any way.

Gothic II has exactly the same controls, same engine and gameplay mechanics. There's just a little difference in the combat, where the player automatically rotates when an enemie is dodging around.

You can play it and finally the more "simply and friendly" Gothic 3. Then you will probably understand why people praise the good old first two games. As I said, Gothic 3 is still a very good game with beautyful locations, but it feels not like a true Gothic anymore.

It's like Gothic (1), but has improved controls.
Still to this day, I haven't been able to actually play the first game.
Controls just feel so... stiff.

Gothic II has few bugs and might crash occasionally, but I still believe it's far better than the third game if you can stand the dated graphics. At least the combat is better, lol.

RE: Gothic - Bridge - 09-18-2013

Story? I can live with the horrible mechanics I just don't want to sink ~24 hours into another one of these if it ends up being as disappointing.

RE: Gothic - Yuhaney - 09-18-2013

Story isn't really that special.

In a nutshell: Orcs are near Khorinis and soon attack the city. You need to find their leaders, which are dragons and then you kill them off one by one and eventually find out about something bigger that you need to destroy...

It's (again) little running from place to another, but at least worlds aren't as big as in Gothic 3.

If you own the Gold Edition, it has 4 different worlds in total (regular version has only 3).
One of them being half of the Valley of Mines (world of Gothic).

I've enjoyed the game enough to beat it, maybe 8 times...

RE: Gothic - Bridge - 09-18-2013

At least it starts out interesting, as with Gothic. I think I'll give it a chance. Discouraging to hear it's not that good though.

RE: Gothic - Yuhaney - 09-18-2013

My friend who's finished all Gothic games made by Piranha Bytes have said that Gothic (1) has best world/story.
I think it's worth of playing since you've already played both Gothic and Gothic 3, yes?

RE: Gothic - Bridge - 09-18-2013

No, only Gothic 1. As I said I was vaguely disappointed. I'd rather not waste 50+ hours on both of them just to fulfill some completionist compulsion, especially if they get progressively worse.
