But Jens sait, it is shorter than TDD.

Yes he did, but that was not my point. My point was that only after you complete the game can you judge is that too long or too short, maybe it will just feel perfect, and wouldn't need any more content.

I agree. You can judge only when you finish the game.
And, however, is not important how long is the game, what matters is the quality of this.

Quality over quantity.

Even if the game lasts for 100 hours, but is nothing but boring and bad in every possible way, is it worth it?

Depends. Would you rather have a huge, bland milkshake, or a tiny thimble of the very best? There's an extreme at both ends here.

It's not fucking dichotomy.

Our emotional attachment to Ellie in The Last of Us was partially due to the duration of our journey with her.

Whatever fits the game is fine. Make it how long it has to be, or how short it has to be depending on the vision.

Main point being if the game was not designed to be long, don't make it long just for the sake of being long.

A:TDD was too long and those last hours were boring and I had to force myself to finish it.

I'd be complaining if it lasted 1 or 2 hours but it seems to have a game length that most players will make longer.

Judging from this thread A:TDD was supposed to be 8 to 10 hours and it lasted me 13 hours. Why? Cause I looked around. I explored. I was very careful and stealthy.

If you play a game with a guide or rushing through it, not letting it sink in and not trying to experience the world it's only your fault for rushing through it.

I could probably cut my playtime in A:TDD in half if I remembered each of the puzzles.

There's such a lack of faith and entitlement (to a degree) in this thread. Wait till you have experienced the full game and judge if it's too short, cause developer estimates are supposed to be taken with a hint of salt because they were the ones that developed it, and thus have an easier time playing through it.

And Penumbra is one story but I don't count it as one game. That'd be like counting a whole book series as one book. But to each his/her own.

Yeah, not to put too fine a point on it, but game design involves many things, one of which includes judging the best length for the game to be. It's just as much a part of the process as graphics and scripting. It's literally impossible to determine if a game designer was successful in their judgement before we've played the game.

Talking about the game's length before playing it is one thing, but to feel slighted or ripped off because you've predetermined its length to be inadequate is like writing a letter of complaint to a pimp stating that you're unhappy with the quality of the tit-job you haven't yet received because you heard the hooker's tits aren't DD.

On my first play through of TDD back in 2011 I think, it took me roughly 10/11 hours to complete, mainly because I took it very slowly. I literally walked slowly everywhere. On my second playthrough it took me like 7 or 8 hours, because I could remember all the puzzles and such, and I ran places a lot more. The time it took me even on my second play through seemed just right for me. Any longer and I would have got a bit bored.

I think 6 hours will be fine for AMFP and it's likely it will be taken slowly on first play throughs, well, that's what I'm gonna do anyway
