[OPINIONS] Extraterrestial life? - PutraenusAlivius - 03-23-2014

Do you guys believe in ET? I do.

There are millions of galaxies in the Universe, and there's a probability that 1 in 200 or so star systems have planets.
If we use Earth criteria which includes:
  • Existence of H20
  • Existence of O2 and C02
  • Hydrocarbons
  • Right temperature
  • Similar to Earth pressure
  • A viable atmosphere and magnetosphere
  • In the hospitable part of a star

We would probably got 10 - 20 billion hospitable planets or so. But we used EARTH based systems. I mean do extraterrestial life follow Earth? I don't think so.
If we used that concept then the criteria should be:
  • Hydrocarbons
  • Right temperature
  • A viable atmosphere and magnetosphere
  • In the hospitable part of a star

By using that instead, then hospitable planets get to be 90 - 190 billion right? But what about intelligent life?
Since that is different, we have to use the same Earth criteria.
And out of approx. 90 - 190 billion hospitable life, approx. 10 - 20 billion may have intelligent life.

But, this is just my opinion. Please share yours here and probably you can discuss something.

Excellent.

I believe life exists, it is just hard to find. We are not the only one.

Yeah, the idea of Earth being the only planet with any kind of life form is pretty depressing.

Is there ET?
It's almost 100% certain that there is.

Will we ever meet or communicate with them?
Extremely unlikely.

Seriously? I thought Moderators fix out of place posts and keep everything on topic.
But this? You are deliberately trying to post this off-topic and I don't think that's the right etiquette for someone with a high position.

I actually wonder why you are made a Moderator. Please keep it on topic.
This is serious.

I don't think it's off-topic. It was highly ironic though.

C'mon, a little payback won't interfere.

Topic:
I think that 1 - 5% of all intelligent life (except us) can communicate, however maybe they use other forms of communication (I don't think an alien will send a message with radio waves, but probably another form of electromagnetic radiation that they can detect, but we can't.) or maybe they're way too far.
