Openal32.dll - EnjoyCoke - 05-24-2009

My vista computer won't allow me to install this file.

What ... The heck do I do?!!! I am about to destroy my shit-omfg-my-whole-month's-salary computer in utter frustration >.<

Please. Someone mail me the logical, simple explanation that my unworthy brain could not come up with on its own.

klausnilsson@hotmail.com

Just ... Tell me where and how to get the OpenAL32.dll file correctly installed so that I can, once again, enjoy the horrors of Frictional Games.
Also... WTB third game !

RE: Openal32.dll - Yuhaney - 05-24-2009

Delete the game, install it again, and when it asks about OpenAL just press Install and it should work all fine - or..?

RE: Openal32.dll - EnjoyCoke - 05-24-2009

Already did that. The problem is that my Vista tells me I need Admin rights to install the file.
I am currently logged in as Main Admin (Also as the only user on the computer), but for some reason I do not have admin rights completely.

I cannot go to "run" and type "Ipconfig /release" for instance, as this too requries supreme-commander(ish) rights. Which I seem to not have.
This might be the wrong forum to ask, but ... I was hoping someone else with Vista might have had the same problem as I and possibly knew what to do.

RE: Openal32.dll - Yuhaney - 05-24-2009

Have you tried pressing you're mouse's right button (in Penumbra's CD over the OpenAL32.dll file) and use the 'run as an admin' or what ever it's called in english...

RE: Openal32.dll - EnjoyCoke - 05-24-2009

So I insert the CD, find the openal32.dll file, and tell my oblivious Vista that this should be run as admin?
Hm, haven't tried that, nope.
Og forresten ... Holdet her er da dansk, er det ikke?
This only made my computer crash.
"My Computer" is completely frozen now.

RE: Openal32.dll - Yuhaney - 05-24-2009

Nope, Swedish.

And yes, try that. If it doesn't work, then I don't know what else you can try... Someone else could try to help you out!

RE: Openal32.dll - EnjoyCoke - 05-24-2009

But people's names ... Granted 300 000 DKK in support?
I don't get it...! But nevertheless ... Scandinavians, Northrends ... Pwning all the big boys and going rogue to create a master piece beyond comparison >.<

Wraaagh!!! (HPL2 engine .... Howard Phillip Lovecraft 2 engine?)
Screw it. I'm gonna fry my HD and get XP again >.<

RE: Openal32.dll - Yuhaney - 05-24-2009

You got it.
As well, in Penumbra:

Howard = Dad
Phillip = Player

But this goes off-topic already, so start a new thread about it if you wanna continue discussing about it. Though, there are some older threads aswell...

RE: Openal32.dll - EnjoyCoke - 05-24-2009

Indeed it is.
But will what I'm trying now not solve my problem, then ... I'll take my computer to an expert and have his advice on the matter.
Now ... We have Howard and Phillip covered. Where's Lovecraft?
(Last off-topic from me)

EDIT: Lol, hopefully not some lame potion he's gonna make at the end? xD
AND IT WORKED!!!!

FUUUUUUUCK YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH!!!!!!
(I went to browse my CD, selected everything and turned it as "Run as admin".

FU, VISTA >.< 1 - 0 To me xD
(And thanks for your help, Scraper. I wouldn't have thought of this myself, really)

RE: Openal32.dll - jens - 05-24-2009

Download openal from here http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip
and you should be able to run and install it properly
