Demo segfaults. - Matthes - 09-03-2010

I can't run the demo. I use Ubuntu 10.4(.1 since I updated it) and have radeon mobility x1300.
Output is attached.
The graphics compatibility test crashed, too, iirc.

What sort of drivers do you have for the graphics card? You must use the drivers from ATI/AMD and not open source versions.

Also post the contents of hpl.log. Should be in Amnesia/MainDemo folder somewhere among your user data files.

RE: Demo segfaults. - Matthes - 09-03-2010

Ubuntu supported my gpu out of the box. Following packages might be related to drivers:
fglrx-modaliases 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu4
linux-firmware 1.34.1
linux-firmware-nonfree 1.8
x11-utils 7.5+3
xserver-xorg 1:7.5+5ubuntu1
xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5
(there are a lot more x-server-xorg[...] packages I have installed, I didn't listed them all here)

The file is in the output-zip I attached to the first post of this thread. Wink

RE: Demo segfaults. - jens - 09-03-2010

is it the hpl.log from .frictionalgames/Amnesia/ ? I think this log is from the Game directory, which is not the correct one Smile

Blush Sorry.

I am quite sure that this:
Mesa DRI R300 (RV515 7149) 20090101 TCL DRI2

Means you are running open source drivers, can you use the hardware driver utility found in administration (i think it is) and use that to download and install a driver from ATI instead=

Yes, that's where it is. I bet this is going to be one of the most FA FAQs, so here's the relevant section from the Ubuntu Documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/hardware/C/jockey.html

The tool exists in Kubuntu as well, is called jockey-kde (surprise!) and can be started from the K-Menu (type it in the text box on top), with Alt+F2 or from System Settings (at least I think it can Big Grin )

EDIT: Might be a good one to add to the Known Issues. "Open Source drivers don't work with Amnesia (yet). You have to use the proprietary binary-only drivers from NVidia/ATI."

EDIT2: I see it's in the Troubleshooting Guide. Is this prominent enough? I didn't see it, the crosslink in the Known Issues is well hidden Smile

RE: Demo segfaults. - Matthes - 09-06-2010

When I start 'jockey' (jockey-gtk) prog, there are no drivers to select. I asked at #ubuntu but they said I should wait until ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04 Sad.

The demos for overture and black plague work fine.
