When i select a few things and rotate them they all spin around their own axis. Is there a way to have them rotate around the same axis so they stay in the same place in relation to each other?

Yes, you press B or select compound from the menu to make a group of objects behave as if one object.

ah cool thanks. i was fiddlin g w. the combine menu option and getting nowheer
