Penumbra: VR Mod - Downsider002 - 08-10-2016

Hey guys, I thought you might be interested in my VR mod for Penumbra: Overture that adds support for the HTC Vive.

Here's a quick teaser:

I'm going to release it as soon as I get my controllers back from HTC, right now one of them is out for repairs.

Maybe Black Plague and Amnesia should be open-sourced so people can do really cool shit like this to that game too Angel

Very nice, keep it up! People will love this. Are you planning on adding other VR devices?

How do you move, crouch and jump?

Well I can see how you would jump and crouch (kinetic) but I am very curious as to how you can move. Idea

Pretty much every VR game uses either teleport or trackpad movement, I have an option for either. There's some silly experimental things, but I think teleport is actually pretty good. It's basically just a parabolic arc that points to a marker.

I'm also experimenting with using the trackpad to move a cursor around, and the game going third person briefly while you do that.

Otherwise, you just walk around inside your play space like normal.

OpenVR supports a lot of VR devices. I use OpenVR, so anything that OpenVR supports, it'll work with. Oculus, Vive, and Razer Hydras/HMD are the big ones.

I like this but the 3d hand model appearing when interacting with things, not so much. I can't really explain it, it just stands out too much like a sore thumb to say the least.

I personally like it, I prefer it over the little 2D hand.

Hmm, a hand makes a lot more sense to me. What else would be there? Confused If you can't see your hands, the experience would be awful.

If you mean by art style, feel free to get someone to make a better one for me Smile

Eh it doesn't to me, the default 2d hand that's usually there just looks better than a full disembodied floating 3d hand.
