Tinderbox challange - Shev - 04-01-2011

Basically you give yourself infinite tinderboxes by modifying the game save file, the catch is you have to light EVERY CANDLE IN THE GAME.

The goal is to make you search pretty much every corner of the map you're in, even when there's a monster around and its the worse at
Spoiler below!
the water lurker chase scene because there are some candles when you're being chased that aren't lit and that includes the possibility of one at the dead end.

It also makes being stealthy extremely hard when the whole place is lit up.

Name some parameters tho - How many candles are there total to reach 100%? How would you track them once you're past an area?

idk to be honest its something my friend told me to do, and I did it when they where playing through the game and I thought it was fun.

Basically I just searched every corner of each room and lit every candle I could find.

Well either way this beats my personal challenge to never use a Tinderbox or even turn on the lamp - I've ended the game with over 100 tinders lol

I'd say bigger challenge is to light them all without altering the natural tinder amount =o

Heh, would almost ask if Frictional could add some achievements to the Steam version. Tongue Though I guess that would mean quite a few modifications to the game itself or perhaps even the engine. Tongue

Maybe one of the modders can load up the original gamefiles and see how many candles there are on a given map? I have no idea if this would be a simple idea or not...

also, Steam achievements would ROCK hardcore, even if they were simple/easy ones. Oooooooh that gives me an idea.... to make a new suggestion thread! lol

Looking up how many candles would take a very, very, very long time. Even using the Find Objects tool, you would still have to find all the candles/torches/etc., then see which ones are(n't) lit, then record the number for each map, and tally up a total. Might sound easy, but it would take at least an hour or more.

Yeah thanks, I figured that would be the case.

RE: Tinderbox challange - thepaleking - 04-02-2011

This is the opposite of the challenge I gave myself. Which was to not use any tinderboxes or oil whatsoever.

RE: Tinderbox challange - Gharren - 04-02-2011

At my first playthrough I had 34 tinderboxes and 5 oil bottles left in my inventory, because in survival games I use my given resources very thrifty, so it would be easier for me to complete the game without using any of them.
Btw, this game really needs some achievements. They would increase my personal rating of the game from 100 to 110%.
