Crashing After Starting - jakesvo - 05-16-2011

Soo... I just wanna say that I loved the Penumbra's and me and a friend have played a lot of Amnesia together, and it is sooo super good. Its amazing. But sadly he has moved elsewhere and I haven't been able to finish. I downloaded the demo to make sure it works and I start it up.. get to the choose account thing and in a few seconds it crashes. I've tried a bunch of stuff. My drivers are updated and everything and I can't get it to work. Its weird because it I act fast enough I can choose my name and get to the title screen but it still crashes in those few seconds. I'm not sure what info you guys need from me, sorry about that. But I can post whatever might help, and I appreciate your time and consideration. You guys are awesome.

I should have mentioned that I'm trying to run it on a Lenovo Thinkpad T500, with an Intel Core2 Duo CPU T9600, 3 GB of ram, and a switchable graphics card with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650. I don't know why I didn't put that stuff originally... pretty dumb of me.

hm, can you get the hpl.log file? Should be in users/my docs/penumbra or something like that.

I believe that it is in Amnesia, right?
Not Penumbra.

So, "My Documents\Amnesia\hpl.log".

Hey here is the log. Thanks for helping.

RE: Crashing After Starting - plutomaniac - 05-16-2011

I can't find any obvious problem at the log. Does it give you an error? I suppose not...

Try these: http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-3754.html

I think that maybe it is a sound problem but I'm not sure at all. Do you hear music before the crash? If not, change the audio device at the launcher to Generic Software on Speakers.

RE: Crashing After Starting - jakesvo - 05-17-2011

I tried your sound fix and it didn't work. Then I went through that page again and combed through it pretty good and I couldn't fix anything. I'm still trying stuff though.

RE: Crashing After Starting - plutomaniac - 05-17-2011

but you didn't answer, do you hear music before the crash? What kind of crash is it?

RE: Crashing After Starting - jakesvo - 05-17-2011

Oh yeah sorry, there is music and everything before the crash. I'm not sure what kind of crash it is. All it says in Amnesia has stopped working. When I click more details it says its an appcrash.

RE: Crashing After Starting - plutomaniac - 05-17-2011

Go to control panel > system and security > (the first one with the flag) and then under maintenance show the event log. There find the crash, amnesia.exe, and check there if it reports any dll or whatever it says.
