Here are logical steps you should go through:

1.Download maya (Trial or download it illegaly, since you don't profit from this). (1hour)
2.Learn basic of maya (1-2days)
3.Learn to rig in maya (1-3hours)
4.Learn to animate in maya (Maybe weeks)
5.Figure out how to place it in game (4 hours maybe)

How to do all this without being in a school with a teacher at front helping you out?

-Use brain
-Be patient
-Use youtube and google

The rigging seems to work ok now. Some texture errors (I don't know why). I'll try to make 1 animation then export the model. See how it looks in-game.

By texture errors do you mean the some vertices went all wacko on you?

It imported into modelview all right (no texture errors). There is some error with the animations though, will have to look at it later. Now I know how to rig bipedals though Smile
Edit: FYI: The problem is that the only part of the animation plays. Arm movement etc. is missing. Imported it back to Maya and it seemed it has created a new skeleton for the arms. I don't know why at this point.

Oh, for the textures, if you mean there were errors in model view, make sure you triangulate the model.
