Why is Daniel complaining every step of the way?!

Clarance was in his head and a few times he takes control of Phillips actions also he showed that he was able to distort his sense of direction by changing the map (when he changed door locations).

^ He was talking about the amnesia potion. Philip doesn't have amnesia; he knows who he is and where he's from and he goes partly willingly to the mine. Although Philip is afraid as well he really starts to lose it only when Clarence comes along. In Overture and Black Plague Philip also has someone friendly to talk with from the beginning. Daniel has no one.

And like we all know Daniel is reaally afraid of the dark. If you have at least some kind of phobia you know what it's like. I have a phobia, a strong one, and often people are laughing at me. They don't find it scary at all while I start to tremble, feel sick and even faint if it continues for too long. I think Daniel has BALLS OF STEEL to go through Brennenburg castle with a phobia of darkness. :'D

In my opinion it also makes some parts of the game scarier when Daniel is hugging floor while monster is around and you should find a hiding spot fast.

It's also worth mentioning that the darkness in Amnesia potentially drains sanity for no other reason then...The Shadow, it's quite possible that it's name is quite literal and it does more then just make red goop grow on the walls and make scary noises, the darkness could be a literal manifestation of the shadow's power and therefore damaging to sanity.

Haha I don't think the right term is complaining. He's simply doing those voices when you're scared :3

I would ask you, if you were in a huge castle, not knowing anything about yourself except your name and something hunting and/or haunting you, every step you make gets a door opened or a window cracked, and seeing monsters all over the place, wouldn't you be scared and/or complaining as well?
