that thing looked pretty mutilated to me with his lower body lying 2 meters away from his torso. I think the developers wanted to make clear, that now something more powerful than the previous model is hunting the player. an indicator that things got from bad to worse, so to speak.

I think that the monster have been killed by the brute, because the brute has that big sword thingy attached to its arm. I think its just too like warn the player that there is a much more dangerous monster down there... Bad english, i know lol

Brutes and Grunts are Alexander's servants, I don't think one will kill another, it makes no sense.

But Shadow is a different thing, it kills EVERYTHING on its way.

I don't think he is "killed" as part of an event, but he's made out to have been killed by the shadow. You never actually see him killed, but you're supposed to believe that the shadow cleaved him in half to get an idea of it's capabilities.

No no there aren't any shadow ghosts as far as I know. That pink organic stuff that keeps popping up and covering the floor and walls though? THAT's the shadow, or at least a spawn of it. Notice how it's following you?
