RE: Monsters origin?
Lol I wonder what childish memories some people have.
The prisoner said "brute" not to a monster. You know, a torture is brute by default.
So, a human could be brute.

And there are no names for the monsters in the game, so Daniel don't actually get an information about grunts and brutes, he just know they are Alexander's servants.
There are no names for monsters in the game, the devs only had to name the file folders.

The finalized idea was that these “servants” were actually beings from beyond that had been summoned into bodies of humans. Once inside humans, they did their best to deform the host into a body that they are used to control, shattering bones, tearing flesh and producing cancer-like growths. This in turned resulted in a scene where the player witness how some humans under great pain are taken over, showing how designing graphics can shape the story, as well as the reverse."
Oh man that would have been so cool. Sad

The game manual is only a description, that should be clear.

In the game is no information about monster names.

I can't be arsed to find it, but I'm pretty sure one of the developers referenced them as Grunt/Brute in at least one interview somewhere.

I have SEEN the manual name them as such, I don't know what you are talking about

RE: Monsters origin?
THE GAME, just simply the game itself doesn't tell some informations about the names of monsters. There's just a note that say the monsters are servants of Alexander.

No Grunts/Brutes - this is only a fictional human word for it.

Of course, they called so, but this is only out of the game, not in the game.

Are you aware of the concept of "canon"? If so, what about "Word of God"? It doesn't matter that it's not explicitly stated in the game (Though it is hinted) if the developers confirm it (As with the manual).
