New Lantern

So for my story I am adding a new lantern, but it is not going to be a lantern, it was going to be a torch. I know how to change the lantern, but would the torch go through the player's hand when they take out the torch if so, how would I change the way the hand appears?

Edit: I need to edit a model called hands.dae so it can make it look like the player is holding a torch
