its quite simple really

we don't want to commit suicide because propagation of the species is the most basic survival instinct of absolutely any species, we just have the advantage of abstract thought. we understand that the 'future' is a concept that we can never reach, but always strive towards, so we do our goddamn best to just make 'today' not suck quite so much.

asking questions like 'but WHO makes our genetic code? WHO makes our basic survival instict?' is just pointless, because there is no definitive, objective answer. There just isn't, and that right there is the beauty of life. Don't try to understand everything, because you never will. Just try to understand enough to improve your quality of life/provide a solid upbringing for your kids. That is the meaning of life.
