How "modded" are your Amnesia files? As in, have you editted any files since you installed the game? You may have caused an error in one of them, if you can recall one which you have modified.

Have you updated your game? An installation or reinstallation of the game may fix your problems.

And copy and paste the contents of the hpl.log here for us. It will give us a good look at the error, and your PC specifications.
