Didn't get ambushed?

I didn't get ambushed in the Chancel (room with blue lights). There were no monsters there at all like there probably should have been. The laboratory is still barricaded because I didn't escape from the ambush because well, I didn't get ambushed. Is there a way around this so I can make the tonic and keep moving forward?
