More specifically about notes, make them logical. A person wouldn't write down "Ha! I love this soup. Oh God, here comes the monster! Help I'm dying! Help!" or something. Having a hard time concentrating right now, although I've seen really good examples of writing with lack of logic for the fact it is being written by a person usually for themselves and not as some aid to the player while still somehow being for themselves not knowing them.
