Following on from what Obliviator said, games like Amnesia put YOU in the game, and your actions determine your outcome. Interactivity is what its called. I can't say this for the whole human race but probably more people prefer to interact with something rather than to sit back and watch something. I think its harder work for the brain to pay attention and requires more imagination etc. (Why have I gone into such depth? )
