I'm pretty sure the Internet is a need paralleling food and water in the developed world today.

I actually think it's worse with some people. It's an addiction just like alcoholism or tobacco addiction and for some people the withdrawal is worse than dying. People rarely commit suicide because of a lack of food or water for example; they usually just wait it out. I like to call it "connection dependency" and I think it's a real illness.
