Crash on opening menus

Have the same problem got an ati radeon x1650.
Took forever just to get into game with all the little tweaking I had to do only to have the menu's mess up.

Tried everything I can think of but I'm wondering if there is anything else I can do? Like deleting files or messing around with dll's?
Yes I've already did everything posted here and tried a few things that weren't. Just trying to figure out why it's just the menu's giving trouble though.
Game looks great which makes me want it to work even more.

Huge fan of the Penumbra series and looking forward to this game as well.
sigh...Knew I should have went with nvidia...

Black Plague scared the crap out of me at times.
