Menus Freezing

Everytime I bring up a menu (Esc, Tab, etc) it either crashes, sounds loop, or takes forever to come up. This makes it incredibly hard to play consistently and sometimes it forces me to hard restart.

I've messed with all the settings and it still does it. Here are my computer specs

2.4 ghz processor
Nvidia 8700M GT
4 GB of RAM
Vista 32 bit

I bought Amnesia off steam.
