Hi.

On my system, penumbra crashes nearly everytime when I get those radio messages. To describe it more exactly:
I have undertitel on. And when the narrator is ready with one passage, the game hangs, only the music goes on.
Then, when restarting the game, in most cases the narrator now reads one passage more before the game crashes...

This problem seems not to be reproduceable, because sometimes, i seem to have luck an the game goes on with no problem...

My System: gentoo-linux, kernel-2.6.21, nvidia NV43 (6600GO) with both drivers 9755 and 10014, 1024MB Ram, Pentium M 1.6 ; enough system infos ??

I have applied the newest patch, but it didn't solve the problem...

I am having the same problem. Usually I just load the game over and over until I can get through the message without the game crashing. But I am now at the scene in the refinery where there is a cutscene while red speaks which I can't see to get past. It always seems at different sentences while he speaks too.

Edit: I went back into the game and turned off much of the extra graphics stuff and tried again. This time it didn't crash!

Have either of you run "ulimit -c unlimited" before running penumbra so a core dump will be created when the game crashes?

That core file (specifically the backtrace from it) will be very helpful in identifying what is causing the crash.

For an explanation of how to get a backtrace read the documentation on the pidgin.im website

Here I got the same problem, but the game doesn't crash but freezed, I have to kill the application to exit.. No "core" file is created (I've executed ulimit -c unlimited before).
Look at the log there is something related to a "radio timer".

same here....
The game crashs not really, but hangs.... Graphics feezes but background music still plays...
I hav to kill Penumbra.
no core file was generated.

The is the same issue I've been getting. I've set the resolution down to 800x600 and switched off all unnecessary graphical effects and it still happens. I usually have to kill -9 penumbra and reload a few times to get through one of the radio broadcasts.

OK. Here is a way to get a core dump/backtrace from that.

when it is "hung" switch to TTY 1 and swith to the penumbra game directory

ps ax | grep penumbra.bin
Note the process ID
gdb ./penumbra.bin PidFoundFromAbove
then in gdb type
thread apply all bt full

Post/PM me the contents of that backtrace, that will let me know where it is hanging.
