I keep running into this problem and I have just recently tried to play the game several times. I just received it as a gift on steam and it refuses to play no matter what I do. Every time I try to save the log, the black box freezes, what do I do to fix this problem?

Update the drivers for the graphics card as outlined in the stickies in this forum section. Unfortunately it is likely it will not help as you probably have an unsupported graphics card that is not capable of running the game.

The card should be supported since it supports more graphics intensive games like Portal 2 and Dead Island, but I will update the drivers, thank you

Just updated the drivers and still getting the error, how do I remedy this? or is there no way to do it with out getting a new video card altogether?

these games use DirectX. We need proper OpenGL support. Most probably your graphics card cannot support it since it is an Intel one.

Also noticed your on SP1 on Windows 2000. Try updating to a newer Service Pack (if available)

He does not have Windows 2000. This report always says Windows 2000 which is obviously wrong.
