1. What operating system do you have? Also 32-bit or 64-bit?
Windows XP Home Premium 32-bit
2. Is it a laptop or a desktop? If a laptop, what model?
Laptop, Dell

i tried to update my graphics card but it just wouldn't work sooo i don't know what else is left to do... buy a new graphics card?

Well, there is two side to graphic cards, one is hardware-wise and other is software-wise(drivers).
If your hardware is able to handle the game, drivers should be able to utilize the hardware and needs to be up to date.
However, if your hardware is not able to handle the game, updating drivers won't do any good. In your case, your graphic card is Intel 855GM and that shows it is not a hybrid laptop that would have a stronger graphic card like nVidia or ATI; and Intel 855GM doesn't support OpenGL 2.1 which is bare minimum for Amnesia: The Dark Descent to run.
