RE: The decline of custom stories.

wow i personally fine i guess it can be annoying same old story jump scares no story poorly made and everything but really this has gone on for fucking ages. is it really affecting you that much i mean if you see a pewdiepie story or anything don't bother with it. im a big fan of pewdiepie but some people on this thread are whining so much it can be like others are saying more annoying than the actual custom stories. and some blame all pewdiepie fans for this it is really annoying. what i think they should do is making another sub forum about pewdiepie custom stories and stories for fun. thats what i think for now if people disagree and criticize me im fine with it i wont get all rage mode lol. =D

Sure, when I see a story like that I don't necessarily approve of it, but it's not worth the time or effort to comment about how terrible each and every map that's not up to par with the best custom stories out there. If you don't like it, just move onto the next thread, it's really that simple.

Sorry if that came off the wrong way, it's just I've been getting really fed up lately with how much people have been complaining lately.
Bravo good sir, +rep to you. Smile
No really, I gotta agree with you. The people who whine about how "custom stories are dying because of Pewdiepie" or "wow, [insert name here] has a shitty custom story obviously based on Pewdiepie, now we must shun him/her and tell him/her to get off the site" really irritate me far more than one person's lighthearted attempt to make a map for someone they adore. If someone actually goes to the effort of trying to learn how to make a CS then applying that to something they love, well, I say at least they learned something! Really, if you don't enjoy "lower quality" or "fan-made for Pewdiepie" stories, then just don't play them! It's honestly as simple as that and no discussion threads need to be made to complain about them, just let the mod creators do their thing and anyone who likes their CS (or wants to kindly critique it while NOT just blatantly saying they suck!) can talk about it on the thread while those who despise it can remain silent. It takes away all of the hate from this forum and leaves the base playing/creating of custom stories for Amnesia, which obviously anyone who's on this sub-forum likes, so we all have a common appreciation of something at least. Wink

I also believe they won't go away because it just won't stop. Pewdiepie gets more popular. This means more talentless work. I'm not an idiot, I know that's not easy to say because I say it about myself, but this won't stop. Look at Minecraft. Do you think that's going to stop within the next few years? I don't.

More ''talentless'' work simply means more to play for those whom enjoy these stories.
It does NOT equal less serious content.

Just because people don't have the necessary time to polish their work to the point where its on the same level as the original game doesn't mean its bad. For Christ's sake, modding is a hobby, it's meant to be fun! Why else would people be doing it? It's not like they're getting paid for it. Personally, I'm doing it for experience with scripting/mapping, which is something I feel I could do as a career later in life; if not, oh well, its pretty fun!

In my humble opinion, there is no amount of "talent" that goes into this, just time, which equates to familiarity with the engine and its resources, generally resulting it more detailed maps and advanced scripting. If I released any of my first projects, people would no doubt caps lock me to death, complaining how its a PDP or troll map because of simply how bad it looked. But, over time, my mapping/scripting skills have increased exponentially.

tl;dr It's a freaking game. You don't have to play it if you don't like it. If you feel so strongly on the subject, create your own 5 star mod.

I rate it 3 memes.

RE: The decline of custom stories.

Too bad people will get to know Amnesia as an unfunny game.
They don't imagine it's just some stupid mods setted up by players for their youtube idols or for stupid jumpscares.
Newcomers will just let it go and Frictional Games should do something. It's my opinion. The things can keep going as well >_>

How do you think people like PDP & Cryaotic got many of their subscribers and popularity? Through the original LP of the game. I can assure you, there is most likely 5-10% of total fans of Amnesia that see play through's of the mods, and not the original game. Also, people who want to view the game for the first time won't look up mods, PDP, Cryaotic or anyone else on YouTube; just like for every other game, they'll look up game play and trailers (which serve their purpose quite well) as well as searching for the original site for the game.

I know it can be frustrating when you think a master peice and genre-defining horror game such as this one's true beauty can be forgotten; but, I assure you, it will never be.

I rate it 3 memes.

I'm not saying it has to be perfect, just not completely retarded. I know its meant to be fun... I've changed my mind from the original post of this and would rather just a better way to filter serious and unserious custom stories.

I compare it to minecraft because of the abnormal popularity it recieves and how it isn't going to stop growing. Anyways, I've changed my mind from what I'm saying here and I just want either a way for us to filter serious and unserious custom stories, or to make people know that Pewdiepie has made it available to post custom stories on his website. That would stop part of the problem.

Is this custom story made by your friend still up? If it's not a jump scare fest, I would love to play it.

Nope. And I haven't seen him on steam in weeks so I have no way of getting it back at the moment.
