Materials, .dds files and co...

Hi !

Simple question, because i'm not able to find something about it..

How do I make a custom materials (in order to create a decal of grass) ? I watched how the current decals are made : diffuse map, specular, and normal.

But the nVidia plugin in photoshop makes me white .dds files oO I don't know what presets I have to use !!

Thanks for any help, I can't continue without that x) !

Ludvearty.

Try this tutorial, it's for planes, but I'm sure the knowledge here is transferable (at least to some degree):

It doesn't have to be DDS.

No actually its better on performance if you dont use dds., the reason frictional games uses dds. is because it supports mip mapping which makes the texture of the models swap as you get closer and farther away from them. an example is the hand held lamp model, it uses jpeg because it will allways have the same distance from you.
