The big problem with hands is it's very, very difficult to realistically wrap them around something.

Sure, you can force the fingers forward until they can't go anymore, but this creates a very weird jester. Not only that, but heavier objects will look light in the hands.

Unless you have several programmers in a multi-million dollar game, I would avoid doing such a small feature.

Please -REP me.
Honestly, please do. I want to see how low I can go!!
Ignore that error message too. Just ignore it and keep going to give me -rep.

There will be hands but most likely not a full body system.

Haha, true. Philip the magician!

Will the hands be used in more ways than just holding an item? Like seeing the hand open doors and the like? That would be nice, if not, as Windex pointed out, hard to make it see realistic with rotation and the likes.

But Dark Messiah handled it pretty nice I think.

Most likely hands will only be for weapons and such, cause it is a very hard problem to do it with stuff like door opening, technically and gameplay wise. For example, normally one wants to be able to open doors beyond the reach of the players real arm length.

In Call of Cthulhu for PC one can enable (with some hacking) a special feature that allows animated hands when opening doors and such. It works well like 50% of the time and looks a bit strange other times. It also makes the player a bit locked down when doing stuff like that and makes the game a bit harder (especially the early escape sequence).
