Run of the mill, nothing too fancy.

RE: Internet Performance?

The school I went to did have fairly high speeds, however counting all the constant users, you'd never actually get that speed.

@Kreekakon It might not be anything special, but that is pretty good. But that is slower than 65% of Taiwan? Does Taiwan generally have very fast Internet speeds?

If I remember correctly, my old speed at 10/10 was about at the middle, 50% of Norway.

Currently I have a 24 Mb/s connection but going to upgrade to a 100 next year. There is currently also a 350 Mb/s available, but that's 25€ (or something) more expensive.

RE: Internet Performance?

If I wanted internet speed to hit 100's, I would have to shell out 8000 euros, cos the nearest wired internet distribution station (don't know what to call it) is about 5 kilometers far from my household. And of course, around where I live, there is not enough willing and buying customers, so they would pull the fiber cable closer.

RE: Internet Performance?

Optic fiber is expensive and honestly not that good. At least how it's distributed here, you get a generally more stable signal without static, but it's capped at how much you can get because more than one household share the same cable, and if there's an issue somewhere, it's more expensive to troubleshoot and fix.

What I use is a coaxial cable, which is what's mostly used throughout the US. Over here, it's the only thing that can deliver over 100, and what I have is near the max possible in my area. Yeah, we're a small town (only 20,000 residents), so we ain't got that much available.

RE: Internet Performance?

A friend of mine has it, and he says it's been quite reliable. (I mean optical fiber)
Few cuts, and only when it's stormy. No changes in speed whatsoever. Solid 100's all the time.

RE: Internet Performance?

It probably works better over there then. Yes, as I said fiber has less noise so it's more stable, because you don't have to deal with electrical interuptions (cause it's light after all).

A lot of people think fiber is the best though, just because it sounds cool. I'm not gonna say it isn't, but most people tend to be amazed by the fiber without even knowing what it is. As long as the end result is the same, it shouldn't really matter how it's delivered... except people don't think about that and just want the "cool and new" fiber.

Fiber IS good though, no doubt. But PCs don't have fiber inputs directly (or at least extremely few), so there's no real difference because the signal speed still has to be capped at whatever the components in between can accept. Modem, ethernet cables etc.
