Stuck in Overture - DONE

I'm in The Fears of Mine: No Strings Attached.

I know that I have to pick up some string from a box on shelves inside the workshop.

I can SEE the string, but I can't pick it up: I get the "what is it" cursor when I first look at the shelves, but never the "pick it up" cursor.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?
