Onboard audio and surround
Is it ever gonna happen? I'd like to know.

As it is now, I can't utilize 5.1 surround sound because of my OS (Windows 7 or Vista for that matter). Is this something Frictional is working on?

It's been 4 years since Vista, come on! It's not like this is a new problem either, Penumbra had the same problem.

I'm not 100% sure what the exact problem is, the only thing I do know is, it's inherent to the engine both Penumbra and Amnesia use. Some say it's because of the OpenAl Hardware support, which MS dropped in Vista and Win 7.

All I want is some clarification, maybe somebody else found a fix. The suggested fix with the config file does not work for me, as I have onboard audio.

I have windows vista 32bit and a SoundBlaster Auidigy SE. I heard that creative cards just can't use OpenAL at all. Is it true? Sad

Not true or not specific to CL.

If the issue is Open AL, use the Creative ALchemy program. It restores the hardware support that Windows 7 dropped.

I am having no sound issues with my Creative X-fi Xtreme Music in Windows 7 and am using Alchemy. Running full hardware support with 128 streams:

Quote:Initializing Sound Module

Initializing OpenAL
Available OpenAL devices:
0. Generic Hardware on Speakers (2- Creative SB X-Fi)
1. Generic Software on Speakers (2- Creative SB X-Fi)
2. SB X-Fi Audio [E800](OpenAL default)
Trying to open device 'SB X-Fi Audio [E800]'... Success!
Number of mono sources: 128
Streaming setup: 4 Buffers x 262144 bytes each

I run it for all my games, regardless. Can't hurt anything and I have not once had a sound issue with W7.
