Pass on the story! Collaboration!

So I just got this idea for making a custom story.

What if someone here wrote a story, and give out the chapters to a few individuals here. One chapter for each person.
When everyone has done their part, we have a custom story!

Or what we could also do, is have someone make a part of one level, and pass it on to the next one.
While doing this, we develop the story. That means we have only a beginning when we start. (ie: you have amnesia, you dont know where you are)

Ofcourse, we will have to send the map (or part of it) to the next person.
When a single level is done, it will be sent to me, so I can create the actual story. (So you can play it.) Wink

If we want to do this, I'll make a list here with people who want to do it.
NOTE: Please, no newbies who just started. (Can't write a script with a error in every line, for example.)

only one issue...
many voices that go together to form each part, each chapter wont follow a constant theme without a single voice over each chapter, one part your in a castle dungeon figuring out the dark portal then suddenly in the zoo admiring the elephants

Well you're not supposed to to that of course.
The idea is that people build onto one others story and level design.

So should one start in a castle, you will have to continue in that castle part until the map/castle part is over.

I think making it look like a random piece loosely sewn together by level doors actually has its own appeal ._.

Well, it's not meant to be a story which looked like it was made by 1 person.
Everyone puts their own little idea's in it, thus creating a story.

I was personally thinking of giving 1 week, each person.
When everyone has gotten their week, we start at the first person again until it's finished Smile

haha, it does to a degree, but there's a fine line between having a good fun game and cruising through a map because your waiting for the paint to dry, if you know what i mean

I suggest having like a castle of nightmares mod, the first guy designs the back story and main rooms that have doors that lead to other rooms that other people make... like an evil fun house of doors in a crazy horror castle

I'm not totally sure what you mean by your first part...
The thing is, that everyone build's onto each other's part they make.
So in that way, if you actually try to write it as how it could go further, we should be ok.
With that I mean, not a part where you fall down a hole or something after each person's part, if you know what I mean. But rather like... Where an earlier monster was walking away, that the next person makes it walk the next part or something like that, to make it a story, really.

But your idea is also pretty fun.
Maybe we should start that as a second project here?
