also, i tried running it on my windows vista desktop and it worked fine with all the default settings.
also, the vista desktop has much lower specs than the laptop

It crashes so early so that the log does not contain anything useful. What graphics card is there in the laptop?

ATI mobility radeon hd 5870 graphics

I have the same in mine and also win7 64. You are sure the drivers are up-to-date?

Is there another graphics chip in the computer as well? For low power running.

Have you tried running in Window mode? Maybe it is the 1024*768 resolution that the computer does not like, or at what refresh rate the game tries to use.

I updated my drivers, to my knowledge there are no other graphics cards, and I have not been able to get to a point where I could change the resolution but I have tried it on the laptop's 1920x1080 and my monitors 1680x1050 and neither works.

The desktop that runs vista runs on the same monitor though, and it works fine there

I believe Jens meant that the games resolution is by default the 1024x768 which your computer might not like.

If you want to change the resolution, go to the Amnesia's main folder and find the options file and open it up into notebook and manually set the resolution.
See if that works.

So you do not even get the Launcher? The program that starts before Amnesia and lets you configure some basic settings? Including resolution.

nope, i haven't even gotten the launcher. unless i select the amnesia application (which brings up a crash alert) my computer just loads a bit, then nothing happens.
