THQ to publish Amnesia - The Dark Descent, Coming Feb. 22nd in the US !

Wow ! guys Amnesia's getting a retail release in the US by THQ.Really ! my Congrats to Frictional for getting such a BIG publisher for Amnesia - The Dark Descent.

I thought the whole point of indie game dev was independence from publishers

They're still independent. Frictional is not Visceral or Treyach, they still do their own game, not some sh*thead publisher told them to do.

As far as I know, Indie games are not contracted to a single publisher. For instance, Infinity Ward games will always be published by Activision. Indie games have no such contracts, and aren't bound to publishers.

they just swung a deal with THQ to punch the discs is all. Im sure this THQ deal is an exclusive pub deal for hard copy Distribution. Its like Amnesia being released on Steam, not much different.

Congrats on the pub deal, too bad 2011 will be the year Shelved PC games die.

ps. Box Art doesnt make a great game.

no, but it sells a great game, this doesn't, and shelved games are not going to die, hard copies have a while to go before they disappear, several years at least, even if they are bought less and less, technology isn't fast enough to render them obsolete in over such a short period of time.
