I'd say the result was just that. It may have 2 arms, 2 legs, and a head, but everything else is one-of-a-kind...and highly disturbing. In a good way, I mean.

Creature that attacks sanity? That's a very interesting concept, I like it. I think it might work even more effectively though with more dire consequences to complete sanity depletion.

On another note, the idea reminds me of one of my all time favorite enemies in the older Dungeons and Dragons games. The Illithid (Mind Flayer) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mindflayer.jpg
