A more well known band that goes along those lines would be Dream Theatre.

Well I consider myself as a "metal fan", since I mostly listen to stuff like The Faceless, Converge, The Berzerker, Animals as Leaders, Neurosis, Between the buried and me, The Dillinger Escape plan, Cloudkicker, The Contortionist, Cynic, Gojira etc. If you disagree about those bands being metal, be so kind not to start throwing shit at me.

I just started getting into Animals As Leaders a few months ago. Brilliant band.
Love TDEP (Saw them 5x for the Calculating Infinity tour) and Gojira.

I like Neurosis. Though all I have by them is Enemy of The Sun and A Sun That Never Sets. Not a band I can just sit down and play all the time, have to be in the right mood for them, but a good band none the less.
I want to go to Maryland Death Fest this year as they're playing.

I tend to gravitate to the prettier, more melodic stuff, like Machinae Supremacy and myGRAIN, though I do care for Sybreed, Soilwork, and Periphery around the edges.
